First Post - Setting Up A Blog.
So, this is what it's like for a neophyte to setup a blog. I was approaching the installion with some trepidation. It is really much simpler than I had imagined.
Hmmm, that may be a lie. Actually, that is a lie. It took only moments to follow the straightforward process of creating an account and writing a post. However, to get it to actually publish the post took some digging and time. I kept receiving "550" error(s) everytime I tried to publish. There was no information in the help section for the blog software. As I Googled for information I discovered this happens to be a permissions error. The required fix is to manually setup the paths for the archiving and site feed files to be able to write. Once I did that it worked like a charm.
http://www.thinkthunk.com/blog is the URL for this site. The blog you are now reading is named index.html and it is located in the blog directory.
I am providing the following examples, for other newbies, to save the frustration I experienced.
Under the "Settings" tab choose the Archiving tab. My setup looks like this:
Archive Frequency - Yes
Enable Post Pages - Yes
Archive Path - /webroot/htdocs/blog/
Archive URL - http://thinkthunk.com/blog/
Archive Filename - archive.html
Under the "Settings" tab choose the Site Feed tab. My setup looks like this:
Publish Site Feed - Yes
Descriptions - Full
Site Feed Server Path - /webroot/htdocs/blog/
Site Feed Filename - atom.xml
Site Feed URL - http://thinkthunk.com/blog/atom.xml
So, if you are setting up your own blog on your own Unix server, I hope this helps some new user to save some of the time and frustration I encountered.
